When homeowners ask me how often they should schedule pest control, my answer is always the same: it depends on the environment your home sits in. In residential pest control, service frequency is not about cramming in the most visits. It is about matching your protection to the pest pressure your property naturally produces.

The overwhelming majority of the homes we service in Ozaukee County WI have great results with every other month service. That schedule keeps a consistent barrier in place, lets me track seasonal shifts, and stops small issues from turning into big ones. Monthly service is usually reserved for homes with heavier pressure, recurring rodent activity, or a specific problem we are trying to knock down quickly.  It's worth noting, that every other month service is standard for my Proactive Pest Shield Service. Mosquito services and Commercial Pest Shield services are done on a monthly basis.

What drives heavier pressure? The outdoors. A home surrounded by thick woods has more natural rodent activity  because mice have endless cover and food sources. If that same home has gaps under siding, utility line penetrations, or worn door seals, the odds of mice finding their way inside go way up. Now add water to the mix. Homes on ponds or near low, damp areas often see higher mosquito populations, which can also increase spider activity around lights, soffits, decks, and landscaping. More flying insects means more food for spiders, so webbing can ramp up fast during the warm months. Landscaping choices matter too. Heavy mulch against the foundation, thick ground cover, stacked firewood, and cluttered sheds create perfect hiding spots for ants, earwigs, and other invaders. Bird feeders and pet food left out can raise rodent pressure. Even your neighbors play a role, because pests do not respect property lines.

Quarterly service can be an option for lower pressure homes, but there is a tradeoff. Insecticides do not stay at peak strength forever. A simple way to think about it is that many products lose about half their effectiveness every 30 days. By the 60 day mark, they are nowhere near as effective as they were in the first month. That is why, for best results as a standard, we service every other month.

Commercial properties are different. Monthly service is usually best because dumpsters, deliveries, customer traffic, and constant entry points create nonstop opportunities for pests.
